Stained glass is a new venture of art and design for me where I get to explore my fascination with the imitation of nature and the symbolic qualities of glass itself. Glass is a barrier. In the museum glass is used to keep valuable objects safe and separated from its guests. In the home our windows keep us from the conditions of the outside world, a sense of security but still the ability to connect and observe the other side. Stained glass can be seen throughout history since ancient Egyptian and the Roman empire, and can be more widely seen in 7th century Britain.
My designs primarily deal with Northern Viriginia wildlife I grew seeing in my childhood yard. As seen with the finished Cicada wing and Swallowtail catapillar down below. As my glass works continue this theme will become broader and will explore the relationships between animals, starting with predator and prey.
